Original Crystal Skull art for Blu Ray

This is the art I did for the Crystal Skull spread in the Indy blu ray.  I was told to change the Kate Blanchett character Irina and Indy.  They hated this Indy.  Although I was quite happy with it.  So I changed them to the version you see on the box.  One thing I didn't change was Indy's placement.  I placed the new head right where this one is, but somewhere along the way, it was nudged over so he's midway between Irina and Mutt.  Like it was an oversight on my part.  Several other elements were nudged around as well.  None of this improved the design.  I suspect some of you are thinking 'what's the big deal?' and some of you know how aggrevating this is.  Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the gig, and the people that fought to have my artwork in the set at all, but this kinda thing can drive ya crazy.

Me and George RR Martin

A story from Comic Con:  at this year's Random House soirĂ©e, I had a nice sitdown conversation with George RR Martin.  I showed him some of the Game of Thones work I did for HBO.  It was especially gratifying that he liked my favorite stuff that HBO had turned down!  Anyway, as we said our goodbyes, he stopped, seemed to decide something, then reached into his pocket, then with a smile handed me a penny.  A Westeros penny.

I thanked him profoundly, but I'm also thinking 'what the hell just happened?' maybe I should take it to Braavos, hand it to someone and say "valor morghulis" or he's unloading pocket crap. Beats the hell outta me.

Pretty cool though.

Unused promotion for Game of Thrones season 2

Being an avid fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, I've had fun pitching marketing ideas for Game of Thrones, both season 1 and 2.  Lot's of ideas are pitched by several designers and artists from several agencies, so I don't get my hopes up that any one will win through, but I thought this one had a chance:

In the second book, the characters are spread out all over Westeros, so I thought it would be cool to show our characters standing on a large, room-sized map of Westeros (perhaps like the map at Dragonstone) at their approximate location.  There would be a series of ads with photos taken from various locations.  All would be of the same group, but focusing on different characters due to the vantage point -Dani from the southeast, Jon from the North, Tyrion from the Southwest, and so on.  Furthermore the photos could correspond to a fly around bumper/commercial for the show.  Well, this one didn't make it through either, so I can share it with you!
